The Greeks

The first European civilization, also known as the Greeks, were called “barbarians” because their way of life revolved around a community of families, farming, and battling. The Greeks have had a major influence on modern day civilization. Right down to this very day we still have Greek influences. For example, democratic government, the Greeks were the first civilization to allow people to take part in government decisions. Greek people also had a talent for building amazing structures that have lasted to this very day. Greek people also had a talent for building amazing structures that have lasted to this very day. They would use rocks that were “rough-cut” that are called “megaliths” to build important structures. While studying certain areas were the Greeks once lived, archeologists have found evidence that they were one of the first civilizations to use a plow. This signifies that they were extremely advanced. When the Indo-European nomads had migrated into the territory of the Greeks new ethnic groups began to form. The daily life of Greeks began to mix-in with the Indo-European lifestyle. People began to speak the language of Indo-Europeans that were close to Greek and Latin. The Indo-European people also influenced the warriors of the Greeks. The warriors would still worship the gods and goddesses they had been but they would also worship gods of metalworking and ward and other gods. When  a warrior died he was buried, which we still see today, but the warrior was buried with many of his belongings and his wife beside him with her belongings. Greek settlements were spaced out and had small populations compared to Egyptian and other civilizations. Their daily life was usually farming and their communities were small related families. Within the civilizations people formed tribes. Tribes were people who had interests in similar things and would meet every so often to have celebrations or build things. Tribes would fight others for slaves or anything they wanted. Tribes were usually only temporary and were forced to break apart.
